Learn More About Generations...
Generations Tea Room and Gift Shop meets all the criteria and is charming, as well. The shop is a unique blend of home décor, children’s toys and gifts, jewelry and handbags, in addition to a cozy dining area that bustles with business each day around noon.
Amy Petersen, who lives south of Templeton, elected to open her business on Manning’s bricked Main Street inside the German Village Mall. She rented over half of the mall space, removing walls and installing a full kitchen. In addition to soups, sandwiches and wraps, she pursues her love for baking. Daily, she offers fresh breads, rolls and pies along with flavored coffees and cappuccinos.
In the hallway of the mall she placed several little two-person tables. With decorative lighting, striving to recreate a little Italy. “When I was in Italy, I loved the little Tuscany roadways and alleyways with the little tables and things, so I wanted to bring that feeling to my shop,” Petersen commented.
She has always dreamed of opening a retail business, and in the back of her mind a bakery. However, the wife and mother of three places an emphasis on family, including the close relationship she has with her parents. She and her mother took a step toward business in 2004 when they began baking together. With the name “Double Delight,” they sold baked good through various outlets.
Petersen noted with a smile, “It’s just kind of escalated from there.”
The store name, Generations, was chosen to "reflect family."
“I wanted the name to be something family-oriented because my mom and dad have helped me tremendously. Mom is right here in the shop working beside me. And I want my kids in here. I want them to learn you have to work for the things you want,” she said.
Her colorful shop offers affordable merchandise that cannot be found elsewhere in the area. She handles several one-of-a-kind items and her inventory changes continually. The quaintness of the shop attracts visitors from a wide area; many who make it a point to return to Main Street Manning.
